Winter is looking hot: A surge of snowbirds arrives as South Florida’s peak season builds

A strong winter season appears to be building in South Florida as snowbirds gear up to travel again, hotels report strong bookings and the region’s events scene regains traction after being sidetracked by COVID-19. 

The indicators area already present, with would-be visitors declaring their intentions to travel and businesses reporting upticks in patrons. 

Discover the Palm Beaches Florida, the tourism promotion arm for Palm Beach County, said Tuesday that it anticipates travel demand “to increase significantly,” breaking records in January through March of next year. “With international borders reopening later this month, we expect to see a surge from our key international markets, specifically from Canada,” the agency said.

Ford's Garage Inks Deal to Open Seven Restaurants in South Florida

Ford’s Garage, a budding burger-and-craft-beer franchise that gives the vibe of being in a 1920's service station and/or prohibition bar, is expanding its South Florida footprint. Michelin Guide Is Heading to Florida in 2022

French tire company Michelin announced that it would be bringing its coveted Michelin Guide to the state of Florida in 2022 covering Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. This comes as a partnership with Visit Florida, the state’s official tourism board and marks the fifth destination in the United States for the prestigious restaurant rating system joining guides in New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, and the state of California.

Rising from what used to be Fashion Mall, Plantation Walk — a shopping/restaurant/ entertainment/residential/hotel center — has signed leases with four eateries. Much of the construction is done on the project that sit on University Drive near Broward Boulevard, but the first restaurant won’t open until January. That would be Tacocraft Taqueria & Tequila Bar, which brings the owner back to his old stomping grounds.

Wells Coffee Opens Second Location in Fort Lauderdale

There’s a new place to get your buzz on in Fort Lauderdale. Locally bred Wells Coffee Company has opened its second café, and, for Fort Lauderdale coffee loyalists, the location is super-familiar. The coffee shop is housed in the former brick-and-mortar home of Grind Coffee Project in the city’s Tarpon River neighborhood. The outpost beams with a wall of windows and is anchored by a glowing blue bar with a white subway tile backsplash. Inside, the menu of coffee concoctions ranges from pour-overs to horchata cold brew to latte art gems – all anchored by Wells’ freshly roasted beans.
