- Eating in Outer Space at EPCOT's Space 220! [NEW RESTAURANT]As part of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, the new Space 220 restaurant has opened in EPCOT. It is a themed dining experience which takes place 220 miles above earth in outer space, witch amazing food, drinks and desserts. We traveled to Florida on opening day (September 20th 2021) to experience this new attraction.

There are a TON of new food and beverage items for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration. At Casey's Corner in Magic Kingdom, they've added a VERY interesting hot dog that balances savory and sweet and is something you must positively try.

Bacon is more expensive for Americans than it has been in the past 40 years. And yes, that is accounting for inflation. That hankering for pork chops is costing you about 7% more than 12 months ago. The average price for that slab of bacon to accompany the Sunday morning spread has jumped nearly 28% during the past 12 months, Consumer Price Index data show. 

The supply chain issues and inflationary pressures that have become all-too common in these pandemic times certainly have played theirs roles in the pork price hikes, alongside a slew of industry-specific influence. President Joe Biden's administration, for its part, believes prices are high because a couple of large companies control the majority of market share, and has outlined plans to level the playing field.

PROFILE Watch: A chef’s mission in Dominican food and a mean mangu | Let’s Go, South Florida

 

Chef Danny Peñalo’s big-flavored, Caribbean food is rooted in the Dominican Republic. But his elevated style is the result of culinary training and years spent working the island’s international hotels and resorts. 

It was his father, who was living in the United States, who noticed his son’s gifts. “He went over there, tried some of the food and he really liked it. He said, ‘We don’t have this stuff in Miami,’ ” said Peñalo, who was born in Santo Domingo. So Peñalo sent over the best thing he could — himself. 

In 2013, the chef moved to South Florida and opened Yarumba in Miami Gardens, with help from his family.

NEWS / U.S. Marshals Seize 25,000 Bags of Spices from Florida Company Due to Alleged Unsanitary Conditions

Last Thursday, the U.S. Marshals Service acted on behalf of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and seized more than 25,000 bags and boxes of spices and food additives from a Miami spice company, due to the insanitary conditions that the items were being stored in. The products that were taken from Lyden Spice Corporation's storage facility —including crushed red chili, monosodium glutamate (MSG), and sesame seeds — will be destroyed or otherwise disposed of. NEWS / Fort Lauderdale, your water may taste different for a few weeks

On Tuesday, the city plans to begin three weeks of adding free chlorine to its drinking water system. 

“Free Chlorination is a common preventative maintenance procedure for water systems using chloramines for disinfection,” the city said in a news release. “The city expects the chlorination period to be transparent to our neighbors; however, some may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water. In addition, neighbors may see fire hydrants running in their neighborhoods, which is part of the normal maintenance process.” 

It is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. and to run until 9 a.m. on Oct. 26. The city says the water is still safe to drink and that “chlorine has helped provide safe drinking water in the United States for more than 100 years.”
