 " “I have been screamed at. I have had fingers in my face. I have been called names. I have had something thrown at me,” she said. One customer hurled a water glass at her feet and stormed out after she repeatedly asked him to put on a mask. “I have never been yelled at like that before in my life, until I was asking people to simply put a piece of cloth over their face that I was wearing eight to 10 hours a day.”

A spring break hotspot for decades in the 20th Century, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. has over the past 20 years matured into a city better known for luring corporate campuses than college kids. “What once was considered a vacation-only destination, Fort Lauderdale is thriving and poised to continue attracting high-profile businesses, an emerging talent pool and significant investment in infrastructure,” says Jenni Morejon, president of the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

The swift recent growth has precipitated the DDA’s unveiling of a 2030 forecast. The outlook calls for more than 20 new urban core developments. They will feature 13,000 new residential units, 600,000 square feet of shopping and dining, 1.1 million square feet of office space and 1,000 new hotel rooms to come on line in the next 10 years.

ART / Everyone Under the Sun by Avi Ram / Convention & Visitors Bureau

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced its new brand name as Visit Lauderdale with the destination tagline 'Everyone Under the Sun,' reflecting the diversity and welcoming nature of the Greater Fort Lauderdale region. 

To illustrate the new brand, Visit Lauderdale commissioned internationally renowned airbrush artist Avi Ram, a Greater Fort Lauderdale resident, to paint a new 'Everyone Under the Sun' mural. 

The mural is on display at the entrance of the W Fort Lauderdale hotel. The brand launch also included the debut of the official Visit Lauderdale Everyone Under the Sun beer, crafted by Fort Lauderdale's Gulf Stream Brewing Company.
