POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – How does sushi on the beach sound? Well, a father and son duo from New York have created just that experience in Pompano Beach. We know that Miami and Fort Lauderdale are hotspots to open up shop, but the owners say they see Pompano Beach as up and coming, so they had to catch the wave. So the New York-based restaurant, Sushi Lab, has ridden the wave to South Florida and the results from the experiment may leave your taste buds wanting more. The restaurant, created by father and son Hank and Brandon Fried, is located inside the Residence Inn by Marriott.

Taco Bell may add fries to its menu permanently to compete with McDonald’s

(CNN) — Taco Bell knows you want fries with that. Especially during lunch. To compete with rivals such as McDonald’s during lunchtime, the chain is considering permanently adding fries to its menu, Taco Bell CEO Mark King said during an investor event Tuesday. “People that go to lunch want to have French fries. We know that. So we’re looking at and testing bringing fries permanently on to the menu, which would increase our lunch business dramatically,” King said.

Khoffner Brewery out, Dream State Brewing in at Sistrunk Marketplace

In a major reshuffling of craft-beer vendors, Khoffner Brewery is out and Dream State Brewing is in at Sistrunk Marketplace, Fort Lauderdale’s massive food hall complex in the historic Sistrunk neighborhood. Under a new deal, Dream State Brewing — from owner-head beer wizard Will Rivera and partner Paul Lombardozzi — will take over operations of the onsite brewery, which has been closed to the public since Oct. 11. The duo will inherit the brewhouse’s 20-barrel system, capable of pumping out 620 gallons in one batch, and expects to open the rebranded brewery in mid-November, once their beer and wine license is approved by the state.READ MORE >>>

When “Good Morning America” went on a quest for “the best desserts in the country” a couple of months ago, they made a stop at one of South Florida’s revered sweet spots, Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop in Wynwood. Disney World fans are outraged about $625 dinners at resort restaurant

Some fans of “The Happiest Place On Earth” apparently aren’t very happy about one thing. Disney World fans are criticizing the powers that be at the theme park for significantly raising the prices at its most expensive food establishment, Victoria and Albert's restaurant. 

The Chef’s Table tasting menu, which used to cost $350 per person before the COVID-19 closure. This is now the most expensive option, now costing $425 per person with wine costing $200 for a highest cost total of $625.

Drinking coffee before shopping could make you spend more

Drinking coffee or another caffeinated beverage before shopping could lead consumers to spend more money at the store, according to a new study. 

Researchers from University of South Florida, European University Viadrina, Louisiana State University, SKEMA Business School and Neoma Business School initiated the study to measure the effect of caffeine on a shopper’s behavior. 

One experiment in the study involved 300 shoppers at two separate stores in Spain, half of whom were given a complimentary coffee containing the usual amount of caffeine in a traditional cup. The other half were offered decaf or water.

Despite a 16.4% annual increase in chicken prices rotisserie chickens remain $4.99 at Costco and BJ’s Wholesale Club. At Sam’s Club they cost a penny less than that. Meijer still sells its rotisserie chicken for $5.99, while Giant Eagle has kept it at $6.99 and Publix at $7.39. There’s a strategy behind these stores’ decision to keep rotisserie chicken prices steady — and it signals a lot about how grocers are trying to manage inflation while still holding onto their shoppers.

Tacocraft is the first — and so far, only — restaurant to open inside the $350 million food-shopping playground known as Plantation Walk. Diners and shoppers should be prepared for a 1 percent surcharge on their receipts, which was added by the shopping center's developer to finance entertainment events at the complex. There it was, right at the bottom: a 61-cent fee called the “Plantation Walk Surcharge.” Munson and her three girlfriends flagged a server. “I just asked the waitress what it was, and she was like, ‘It’s for the entertainment in the center, I think?’” Munson recalls. “So I joked to the table, ‘Uh, that’s kind of stupid. Tacocraft is the only place here.’ And the waitress laughed and said, ‘Yes, lots of people have been saying the same thing.’ "
